The DFA Project maintains following training activities to implement DAISY in the developing countries. Read more on these pages.

International Trainers Training in May 2008

International Trainers Training was conducted from May 17 to 23, 2008 at Century Park Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

In this training, there were 13 participants from Malaysia, Philippine, Singapore, China, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Mongol, Laos and Cambodia. "DAISY Translator" and "Pipeline" were introduced and mainly used during the training as well as "Sigtuna DAR 3" were used recording for DAISY 2.02 full text and audio production.

The DAISY ToC Only Production Training in South Africa was organized by DAISY for All project and South African National Council for the Blind. Held at South African National Council for the Blind in Pretoria, South Africa. The training course was focused on ToC only DAISY 2.02 DTB production using MyStudioPC.

13 participants including 7 screen reader users from 8 organizations attended the training.
Organizations are Aurthur Blaxall school for the Blind, Blind South Africa, South African National Council for the Blind, University of South Africa, Pioneer Braille Printers, Sensory Solutions, Madressa Noor School for the Blind and Disability Management Services.

The DAISY DTB Production
Training for the representatives from diverse disability organizations in South Africa was convened by Shakila Maharaj and organized by DAISY for All project. Held at Convention Dynamics, Garden Court Johannesburg International Airport. The training course was focused on full text and full audio DAISY 2.02 DTB production using Microsoft Word Save as DAISY XML add-in, Pipeline and Sigtuna DAR 3.

The DAISY DTB Production
Training for the Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP) and Low Vision Individuals was organized by Philippines DAISY Network and held at the Legend Villas in Metro Manila, Philippines. The training course was focused on full text and full audio DAISY 2.02 DTB production using Sigtuna DAR 3.

10 participants attended the training. 5 participants from ASP which is an organization focused on the education and welfare of Filipinos with autism spectrum disorders, and 5 low vision individuals from
organizations such as Resources for the Blind
Incorporated (RBI), Department of Education, and
Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration,
and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV).

Report

There were ten participants, three from Philippine, two from Pakistan, two from Indonesia, one from Vietnam, one from Nepal, one from Laos in the training. The course was designed to be a advanced course for the DAISY DTB production to help their own country to implement DAISY and a preparatory course for to-be DFA International Trainers.

In this course, sometimes participants were asked to work in small groups. There were several times where participants were asked to discuss problems and solutions. Also, sometimes the individual was asked to teach others how to produce DTBs. Since there were some people who were not familiar with some of the steps producing DTBs, this helped those people also some individuals who came front to teach others.

The training covered how to create better DAISY DTBs which includes; production of TOC only DTBs, xml, xhtml, css, validation and production of full text DAISY DTBs, and how to fix the problematic DAISY DTBs.

International Trainers' Training in July 2007

International Trainer's Training was conducted from June 29 to July 10, 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand. This training was to provide in depth trainers who would become a trainer in the neighboring countries as well as support on-site training in their own country. It was hosted by Monthian Buntan and conducted by Miki Azuma.

This training course focused on NCC only production using Sigtuna DAR 3 for those participated in the Focal Point Training in September 2006. It was organized by DAISY Forum of Pakistan and held at Al Maktoom Special Education Center for Visually Handicapped Children.

There were 10 participants including 3 visually impaired representing 6 different organizations. Even though this training targeted the former participants of the Focal Point Training, there were 5 new participants in this training. For this reason, the training was conducted for 4 days instead of its original plan of 3 days.

The 1st and 2nd days were allocated for the new participants to understand the basic procedure for creating a NCC only DTB with help from former participants. In this way, new participants spent their time creating basic NCC only DTB and the former participants were able to recap the procedure of creating a NCC only DTB by helping the new participants.

Report

There were 10 participants including 3 visually impaired in this training representing 7 different organizations. The training was conducted for 5 days at ATRIEV.

This training course focused on NCC only production using MyStudio PC and Sigtuna DAR 3 and full text production using Sigtuna DAR 3.

All of the participants were able to create at least 5 different DTBs during this training. For the final project, all of the participants were able to produce Full Text projects and on the last day of the training, all participants presented their final projects and their action plans.
