Dipendra Manocha speaks at G3ICT in New York

Dipendra and Marisa participated in the 1st G3ict Global Forum. Dipendra gave presentation and highlighted the concerns of developing countries in the area of accessible ICT such as cost and lack of basic ICT tools. He also highlighted good results that were coming out of DFA Project in its approach of building local resources for addressing the issue.

WSIS

DAISY for All (DFA), representing the DAISY Consortium actively got involved in the process of WSIS to raise awareness of disability and include disability related text in the official documents of The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). As a result, the WSIS documents are the first mainstream (outside disability-specific) global documents which include disability-related text.

Disability related texts adopted in the final documents of WSIS

DAISY for All (DFA), also organized Global Forum on Disability in the Information Society at the fist phase in Geneva and Second phase in Tunis to promote disability related issues such as universal design and use of assistive technologies.


WSIS Phase 2 (November 16 - 18, 2005. Tunis, Tunisia)

The second phase came up with two documents in which appears, 1)Tunis Commitment and 2)Tunis Declaration on Information Society for Persons with Disabilities.

In conjunction with WSIS the forum was held with the initiative of Hiroshi Kawamura acting as a focal point of Disability Family Groups of the Civil Society Bureau of the WSIS. Misako Nomura worked for the forum as secretariat. Dipendra Manocha, Monthian Buntan, attended the forum as speaker.

Dipendra Manocha made a presentation on DFA project in IFLA LBS satellite meeting in conjunction with the general conference.

WSIS Related Meeting in Tunis

Misako Nomura on behalf of the DFA Project Manager, Hiroshi Kawamura made a presentation on ICT for disabled people at a seminar in conjunction with the meeting.

SMIL Working Group Activities

Markku Hakkinen and Marisa DeMeglio attended SMIL Working Group activities, including Face to Face Meeting in Boston.

WSIS PrepCom2 in Geneva

Hiroshi Kawamura and Misako Nomura participated in the second prepcom of WSIS, World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva. Mr. Kawamura, Disability Focal Point and DAISY Consortium, gave interventions from Civil Society Disability Caucus.

World Blind Union 6th General Assembly

DFA representatives participated in the World Blind Union 6th. General Assembly. Monthian Buntan and Dipendra Manocha and Misako Nomura organized and conducted a DAISY Session lead by Ms. Elsebeth Tank, president of DAISY Consortium to promote DAISY in developing countries.
